Mini Session vs. Full session: What’s Best for You?

Updated: Oct 21, 2022

Are you bouncing back and forth between booking a mini or full session? I have things about both types of sessions that I love, so I’ll lay them out for you so you can decide on what best suits you.

MINI SESSION:
For me, a mini session is just that, miniature! Mini sessions last an average of 15 to 30 minutes and include eight to ten fully-edited digital images. If your family is anything like mine, you may have small children who would rather explore the world (or bounce around like ping pong balls) than sit still for a long period of time. If that sounds familiar, a mini session is the way to go! To make sure that you are guaranteed some special pictures, I have a couple of poses that are sure to bring smiles to all. Everything that happens in the space between those planned shots is the joy that you and your family exude naturally; candid photos are one of my specialties.

If you and your family get your family portraits done a few times a year, a mini session will definitely be sufficient, especially for holiday or themed sessions. Living in Michigan has some really fabulous perks: the beautiful fall leaves are just as great of a backdrop as snow-laden Christmas tree farms. I also have a mini session that uses the cutest red truck, and those holiday cards have been some of my favorites! These types of photoshoots provide great opportunities to have images that show your friends and family just how much has changed in a year!

FULL SESSION:
Full sessions last an average of 60 minutes and are meant to celebrate important milestones. Most full sessions are not themed to a specific season or holiday, but rather capture the moments that we hold closest to our hearts: newborn announcements, maternity, graduations, or a family member’s birthday. These photos work well for invitations or announcements.

Full sessions are great for families who don't get pictures taken often. This session offers extended time to really get comfortable in front of the lens; it leaves more room for genuine, sweet moments. Full sessions also work well for children who take a while to warm up as there is more time to help them become comfortable. This booking includes a greater number of digital downloads from your session. Because this is all about what is important to you, the location for this photoshoot is flexible. We can go to a location that I’ve already scouted out (park, nature center, trail, beaches), or even use your backyard.

ALL SESSIONS:
Whether you choose a full or mini session, you will receive a variety of high-quality posed and candid shots. You will get the same energy, authenticity, and attention to detail during either session.

Still not sure which session is right for you? No worries, message me what you’re looking for, and I’d be happy to help you. I cannot wait to meet you and your family to capture your magical moments!
